Two performers added to Fall Festival lineup

Posted at 10:38 AM on Aug. 21, 2008
The Foothills Fall Festival will take place Oct. 10-12 in downtown Maryville. Tickets for the concerts, which take place at Theatre in the Park along the Greenbelt adjacent to the Blount County Courthouse, go on sale Friday. More changes to the lineup of this year's Foothills Fall Festival were announced on Wednesday, but the good news is there have been no more cancellations since Willie Nelson backed out.Instead, two additional acts -- country star Billy Currington and up-and-coming female artist Ashton Shepherd -- have been added to the bill for Sunday, Oct. 12. The previously-announced Julianne Hough, who made a name for herself on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," has rescheduled her appearance, giving area residents another concert to look forward to on Dec. 5."For a festival that draws so many big names and phenomenally talented artists, it's not unusual to have schedule changes," said Jane Groff, events coordinator for the City of Maryville, which puts on the festival. "We've be...

Por ahora, el arco no tiene dueño

Posted at 10:36 AM on Aug. 21, 2008

Brennans take second place in Griscom Cup

Posted at 10:34 AM on Aug. 21, 2008
HUNTINDON VALLEY — Bev and John Brennan did't tee it up in the Women's Golf Association of Philadelphia's Griscom Cup a year ago, but they're likely to return next summer. That's because the Spring-Ford C.C. twosome finished second Thursday in the 59th renewal of the family mixed format event held at Huntingdon Valley Country Club. The Brennans combined for a 72, four shots off the mark set by Wilmington C.C.'s Gail and Chris Anderson, who posted a blistering 4-under 68 to win the Class A (18 and Over). The Brennans were still three shots clear of the third-place team of Judith and Brian Owens of Waynesborough. Spring-Ford's Sarah and William March finished well back with a 93, and fellow club members Beth and William Brennan closed with a 97. In the Class B (Ages 14-17) shootout, RiverCrest's Lauren and Charles Bernard were third with a 78, while Spring-Ford's Lisa and C.J. Van Ostenbridge tied for eighth with an 84. RiverCrest's Sharon Grissinger Harmon, Marsha Herb, Chan...

Morrow: NBC pulls out stops for Olympics

Posted at 10:32 AM on Aug. 21, 2008
I hate NBC and hope things are different this year(1) Way TOO many up-close and personal stories of athletes. The stories last longer than the competition footage in fact!(2) Far too much coverage of the "chick sports" like gymnastics and not nearly enough coverage of sports involving grown-ups(3) Too many studio interviews!(4) Too much Bob Costas and I even like Bob Costas!(5) I would rather have a long commercial break than numerous short breaks!(6) No coverage of baseball.
